My name is Amber Porter Cox (aka Seargent Cox). I joined the military before any war started, in 1999, and spent the majority of my twenties in the United States Army Reserves. I was on active duty in support of the Iraq War (OIF), and in total, I spent three of my seven years on active duty. I did not serve in a war zone. I served during a time of war. During my time on active duty I worked repairing the computers shipped back for repair and managed part of technical team running Fort Leonard Wood. I departed my seven years of service at the rank of SSG/E-6, and wearing the label "Veteran".
One war still continues in 2012. I started life again out of uniform on Labor Day weekend 2004. I moved to Chicago to finish my degree, learn a new skill - and in my transition to a new culture, dress code, career, shifting my lifestyle to living with a small physical disability obtained during my time in the Army, I started to realize just how much my indoctrination, education, and experience taught me about business and life. For this reason alone, I have no regrets.
These short form posts, stories, perspective on public opinion, and lessons learned is part of my personal story of life within the Army and my transition from the boots I wore, to the business world.
